I am researching the history of Great House Farm / Tŷ Mawr, Llandough-juxta-Penarth, near Penarth (historically Glamorgan; South Glamorgan from 1974 to 1996; now the Vale of Glamorgan), and of the land and woodland around it. My aim is to identify and preserve every surviving record of how this land changed hands, who made each decision, and on what record. Background, from public sources: - Western Ground Rents Ltd (company no. 00342092) is reported to have bought the Bute family's urban estate in 1938. It let farm land at Llandough from 1939, and it conveyed land at Llandough to the BP Pension Trust by a conveyance recited in HM Land Registry's records as dated 31 December 1969. - On 26 June 1996 its members placed it in members' voluntary liquidation, together with other dormant companies whose registered office was BP House (London Gazette, issue 54455, 3 July 1996, pages 8979 and 8982). The final meeting was called for 16 May 1997 (London Gazette, issue 54739, page 4683), and the company was dissolved in 1997. Please tell me whether the Bona Vacantia Division (or the Treasury Solicitor, before the Government Legal Department was formed) holds any information about this company, and in particular: 1. Whether any property, right or interest of Western Ground Rents Ltd was referred to your Division, or vested in the Crown as bona vacantia, on or after its dissolution. This includes freehold land, woodland, freehold reversions on leases, ground rents or rentcharges, and any reserved mines and minerals, and especially anything at Llandough, Leckwith, Cogan or Penarth. 2. For any such property: when and how it came to your notice (and who referred it, if a company or public body); what was done with it (sale, transfer, disclaimer under section 656 of the Companies Act 1985 or section 1013 of the Companies Act 2006, or retention); the date and the instrument; the buyer or transferee and the price, if a company or public body; and the record of the decision, with the role of the officer who approved it. 3. Any enquiry, application or correspondence about the company's property received since 1997 (for example from HM Land Registry, a local authority, a developer, a charity or a BP group company), with its date, the enquirer if a company or public body, and your reply. 4. Whether any application was made to restore the company to the register, and any letter your Division issued in connection with it. 5. If your Division held records about the company that are no longer held: when they were destroyed or transferred, under which retention schedule, and the record authorising that. A "not held" answer to any part would be just as useful as a positive one. If anything is withheld, please name the exemption relied on for each part. Copies by email are ideal. Please reply within 20 working days, by 17 November 2026.
