Subject: Ref No: FOI-26-46 (Mapping information - Ty Mawr/ Great House Farm/ Red Fen (Cedfin), Llandough, Cardiff) - Acknowledgement of receipt of a request for information From: FOI Direction: received Date: Tue, 20 Oct 2026 14:58 UTC Institution: Ordnance Survey Refs: FOI-26-46 Archive id: gm-1a159d2b98aea981 ------------------------------------------------------------ Dear Sion Buckler, Thank you for your email dated 20 October 2026. I apologise that you did not receive a response to your original request from our Customer Service Centre, as advised. The information you have requested would normally be dealt with as part of our routine business, however, in the circumstances, we will deal with your request under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) 2000, as requested. As your request was received by Ordnance Survey on 20 October 2026 we will provide you with a response within 20 working days, as required by the FOIA, therefore by 17 November 2026 (although we will endeavour to respond as soon as we can). In exceptional circumstances it may be necessary for Ordnance Survey to extend this date to consider a complex public interest argument if engaging a qualified exemption. In such cases we will notify you of the revised date by which we would expect to provide a response. Should you need to contact Ordnance Survey regarding your request at any time, please quote the allocated reference number in your correspondence. Apologies once again that you did not receive a response as promised. Thank you for your enquiry. Dear FOI Team, Your email of 30 June 2026 (Kim Furlong) - my request of 27 June 2026 about Ty Mawr / Great House Farm, Llandough Thank you for your email of 30 June 2026. You wrote that my request was "for mapping information which is dealt with as part of our routine business", that it had been forwarded to Customer Services, and that "Our Customer Services Team will aim to respond to you within 10 working days." I have not received a reply from Customer Services, so I am writing to you again in this thread. 1. Two parts of my email of 27 June asked for recorded information, not for advice. They asked whether Ordnance Survey holds (a) "any map revision notes, resurvey information, or internal documentation explaining changes in naming or label placement for this area between approximately 1950 and 1975", and (b) "any guidance or archival material explaining how estate names or farm names were assigned, repositioned, or reinterpreted across map editions in this period". Please deal with those two parts as a request for information under section 1 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000, or under the Environmental Information Regulations 2004 if you consider the information environmental. 2. For each of (a) and (b), please confirm or deny whether the information is held (section 1(1)(a)). The site is at Llandough-juxta-Penarth, Vale of Glamorgan, within the area of County Series sheet Glamorgan 47 NW, with the map references I gave (38-1-608 and 38-1-334). 3. To make (a) as precise as possible, it covers, for the large-scale (1:2,500 and 1:10,560) plans of this site published between 1950 and 1975: the revision or resurvey dates; any name sheet, name book or field revision record for the names "Ty Mawr", "Great House" or "Great House Farm"; and any record of who supplied or authorised a name or a change to it (for example, an owner, an occupier, a local authority or HM Land Registry), in what capacity, and when. 4. If any of this has been transferred to The National Archives, please give the reference instead of treating that part as not held. I have found that object name books for County Series sheet Glamorgan 47 NW (1898-1942) are at The National Archives as OS 35/2503. Please tell me whether Ordnance Survey holds anything later of the same kind for this area. If records of this kind were destroyed, please give the disposal schedule or policy that applied and, if recorded, the date. 5. If any part cannot be answered as framed, please give me advice and assistance (section 16) on how to frame it so that it can be. I would be grateful for a response within 20 working days, by 17 November 2026. Thank you for your help.
